1. Open the Start menu in Windows 8 and search for "Scan."
2. Select the "Scan a document or picture" option that has an icon of a printer and camera.
3. Click on the "Scan" area in the bottom left corner of the "Windows Fax and Scan" window that appears. Select where it says "New Scan" in the top left corner to begin the scanning process
